FACINATING FACTS AT YOUR FINGERTIPS

  • Your lungs contain around 2,400km of airways
  • Each lung has a total surface area of 180sqm
  • The lungs contain more than 7000 million alveoli
  • Adult lungs hold an average of three litres of air
  • Every minute, we breathe in around six litres of air
  • Expired air still contains enough oxygen to revive some with mouth to mouth resuscitation if they have stopped breathing
  • Hiccups are caused by the rapid contraction of the diaphragm forcing air through the vocal cords

If you tend to over breathe, this can also increase your stress levels and may even be enough to bring on a panic attack, here are few tell tale signs that may help identify an attack - Symptoms:

  • Extreme anxiety
  • The fear of losing control, embarrassment, panic rejection or failure
  • Extreme butterflies or fluttering in the stomach
  • More serious symptoms may come in the form of:
    Nausea and or Diarrhoea
  • Rapid pulse
  • Sweating, especially on the palms
  • Difficulty breathing, choking session or coughing
  • Pins and needles around the mouth and fingers
  • Blurred vision
  • Ringing in the ears
  • Hot flushes and clamminess
  • Passing out / Fainting
